Flagstaff has been engaged for some time in long-term water sustainability planning efforts. Flagstaff has been working to identify a reliable water supply for the future, and this loan will enable the city to acquire the properties it has identified to meet its need.

Permit limits are designed to prevent wastewater discharges from polluting nearby water bodies and harming drinking water resources and habitat. We are confident the Tribal Authority will promptly make the needed corrections to bring these plants into Clean Water Act compliance.

Even though it's clearly better, and I think that there's a sense that the public thinks that it's a good idea, and even though you have governors as different in their points of view as Warner and myself each agreeing that it's the right thing to do, why would the legislature pass a rule that says that they might have to have a governor succeed himself, when they have no term limits?

Orange County is not Los Angeles. Orange County is newer, cleaner, safer and a better place to live. L.A. is a mess.

Our history is being literally paved over -- buried beneath the concrete. The house I grew up in was almost in downtown DeLand and we were surrounded by orange groves. Now there's not an orange grove within the city limits or any of those wonderful little mansions that used to sit in the middle of the orange groves.

A one-term governor feels the same pressures - to put themselves into a position to be able to say at the end of their four years that they have accomplished certain things without regard to their long-term sustainability.

It was a time in my career that I wanted to take advantage of a great opportunity, test the waters so to speak. Orange County attracted me since it was a long-time DIRT track, I knew all the teams and officials, and I grew up watching the races and loved all the Middletown tradition. With running the Orange County show out of my system and some new officials now in place, I'm really encouraged by the positive direction I see the organization headed.

The long-term ability to provide water is an incredibly important asset and infrastructure requirement to attracting new companies to the Piedmont region. As a long-term solution to water-capacity needs, I think the Randleman Reservoir will be tremendously important.

We're not in the mode that we are mad. We're not at the stage where I think, 'Orange County is taking my water.' We just need time to assess things.

[To meet that need, said Aaron Thompson of the Orange County Red Cross, the school board has turned over a closed middle school, which is being cleaned and equipped this week to serve as a long-term home.] We're hoping to consolidate all our current shelters into that one place, ... We should be able to house 600 or more people there, if that many stay.

Today, fishery managers are continuing to ignore the law and allow unsustainable fishing for too many of our economically and ecologically important fish. It's time to listen to the science and put long-term sustainability ahead of short-term profits.

We're not dying to get into the water business. In fact, we got into it kind of reluctantly with Beverly Beach. To look out for the long-term interests of the county, we feel we need a seat at the table.

I think we'll look at any high ground, ... It may not be where people wind up for the long haul. But, yes, I think we have to look to our neighboring county -- all of our neighboring counties -- that are inland and away from water.

Those who go to Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim games live in Orange County. I live in Los Angeles, and I don't go to Orange County unless it involves a court order, a lap dance or a really, really good bowling coupon.
