We know from various studies that women do not consume news in the same numbers as men. These numbers suggest that one reason may be that women don't see themselves in the news as much as men. The numbers suggest that the news does not fully reflect the breadth that women now play in American culture.

What we see is that the number of women below the age of 35 in television is far greater. Interestingly, past the age of 35 we see far more men reporting the news than women. That of course suggests that appearance and age are a criteria for women journalists and not for men.

This year's state of heart for women brings good news and bad news: Death rates are down and awareness is up, but there are still gaps in care.

I think the bad news about children far outweighs the good news about women.

More than men, women are enthusiastic online communicators, and they use e-mail in a more robust way. Women are more likely than men to use e-mail to write to friends and family about a variety of topics: sharing news and worries, planning events, forwarding jokes and funny stories. Women are more likely to feel satisfied with the role e-mail plays in their lives, especially when it comes to nurturing their relationships. And women include a wider range of topics and activities in their personal e-mails.

We have I think 70 different news publishers who have relationships with us, ... I don't think any of them will be threatened by this. I think that is one possible conclusion but global data shows that in stories reported by women, there is a greater chance that there will be more women news subjects in those stories.

Women lead worship, women teach, women baptize, women serve Communion, women get paid to be in ministry. We have hundreds of women from SPU who are leaders in our church.

Our research has shown while women are interested in serious issues, they don't want the information presented to them in a contentious way. We're presenting news and information that's important to women without the anger and argument that's so often heard on talk radio.

She's probably one of the most well-known foreign correspondents in today's news. She's got that reputation for being tough but still humanizing news. She's such a great role model for women in terms of being able to go into broadcasting. I'd say she's probably one of the most informed and prepared of the international journalists practicing today.

Men and women also value the Internet for a second strength, as a gateway to limitless vaults of information. Men reach farther and wider for topics, from getting financial information to political news. Along the way, they work search engines more aggressively, using engines more often and with more confidence than women.

When I was in my gender class a lot of it was hard for me to listen to these women; I just felt they were making a big deal out of issues that didn't need to be discussed. Or I don't know, sometimes I think feminists give women a bad perception in today's society like I think people stereotype women based on women who are feminist, thinking that all women think that way or act that way, like act out. And I don't think that's the case.
