en He hasn't thrown the ball exceptionally well in the last two weeks, but he's thrown the ball well at times. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. And we've known since Day 1 that it's the consistency we've got to find with him.

en The biggest positive was his game management, how he handled the huddle, how he did things in the game, ... Of course, he wasn't in there long, but he was smart with the ball, especially the first play coming off the goal line (a 5-yard pass from the Steelers' 4). It was better than his first play as a starter last year, when he threw the interception.

en She's a good ball-handler. She handles pressure. She sees the floor real well and gets the ball to the shooters where they want to get it. I have so much confidence when the ball's in her hands.

en The last couple of days here have been real good, a lot more aggressive than the first night (0-for-4 on Friday). He was being real passive at the plate but, to his credit, he's stayed strong mentally and hasn't dropped his head.

en His confidence is up, and he's pitched real good. The ball is coming out of his hand good right now. His fastball is real good and he's thrown some real good breaking balls.

en His workload has been real heavy. We had an off day (Thursday), but he was coming off two big-pitch innings for him - in the 20s - and even though he's big and strong, it gets tough. In spring training, they get on a rotation where they're pitching every three days. Then you pick it up a little and they're pitching every other day. Now, he's been in four out of five days. To be thrown into that, even though you're big and strong, it's still a little early to have that type of pressure put on you.

en The effort level the last couple of games was much better. We've started to get better at holding on to the ball, but we've got to avoid the rashes that we've had that allow other teams to go on a run.

en He's getting his confidence and he's figuring out that the varsity level is a little higher intensity level. But he's adjusting and so are the other kids. I'm pleased with all those guys that swing. I can't say enough good things about what I think that is doing for our basketball program in the future.

en The thing I'm most pleased with was I thought you saw an intensity level and an effort level that we haven't had for a couple of weeks. Second of all, there were things we prepared to do, and we executed them. ... It was some good stuff.

en We are really pleased with Joe. He's thrown 14 innings, and he hasn't given up a run.
