Our customers expect our applications to always be available. High availability isn't good enough; it has to be on 100 percent of the time. The experience with developing our HMV Digital service has been excellent. We developed the product in record time using Visual Studio 2005, and SQL Server 2005 has done exactly what we hoped it would in providing continuous availability.

A couple of things made a marked difference for Nasdaq this year. They completed a secondary offering early in the year, which gave visibility to their cost-cutting and market-share gains. The strong performance of exchange stocks later in the year also helped lift Nasdaq. Finally, there's revenue growth, and the potential to take listed share next year as the New York Stock Exchange goes automated.

It's kind of six of one, a half dozen of the other. Storage vendors are always going to advertise that their products will take the load off the server. Server vendors are going to say they'll take the load off your storage -- frankly, I'd be disappointed in a server vendor like IBM that didn't try to leverage its servers.
