It's a lot less ordtak

It's a lot less common to have a weather pattern that drives a storm straight into the coast in that part of Florida.

We are still in the midst of the hurricane season. A tropical storm looms off Florida's east coast. No one thought Katrina would do what it did when it was off the coast.

Based on all the information we've received at this point, this storm could pose a real danger to our state's coast, particularly to low-lying areas in Georgetown and Horry counties, ... I also want to make it perfectly clear to folks throughout South Carolina that the potential for severe weather is not limited to the coast. This is a serious storm that's got the potential to do a lot of damage and put lives in jeopardy if we don't take it seriously.

We don't usually see this sort of strong storm in August. We're definitely in the fall (weather) pattern now.

Our official track brings it to the central part (of Florida), but nobody in the east coast of Florida is out of the woods yet. It's too early still.

They'll stay down there as long as Florida Power & Light needs them, or unless we see a change in the weather pattern here.

Anybody along the northern Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the Florida panhandle needs to be watching this storm.

We are in a general weather pattern the last couple weeks where there is going to be, every few days, a weather system moving across the Northern Great Plains. So rain is likely not only Monday night and Tuesday, but late Thursday night and Friday from the next system. So it's an active weather pattern.

We are not concerned about the Gulf Coast and we expect little if any impact on the oil industry. This is mostly going to be a Florida peninsula storm.
