en When I visited China, ... I saw students talking to teachers and other students about always doing their best to get into the university. Our students have the opportunity to go to great schools. We really have got to light a fire under them.

en There were three phases. Those students who attended school prior to Katrina, those students who lived within the parish and attended other schools, and those displaced students from Orleans and Jefferson parishes.

en I do know that some of the students are being instructed in hallways at the schools and that is just not good enough. We have a classroom in New Albany that only has seven students in it. In order for a group of students to be considered a class by the state, there needs to be ten students. We will lose out on a lot of money if this problem is not rectified. We have to offer these students the best that we can afford.

en The lessons students need to learn are very similar to the issues faced by adults. The difference is college students are experiencing them for the first time.

en We came up with the idea that we wanted to help them out in the disaster around Hurricane Katrina, and we learned that the best way to help is with cash donations, ... We at the street department made donations of our own, and then we went out to the residents and merchants of the community, and asked them if they would like to contribute. No one turned us down. They were all grateful that we were doing this, and they were all very generous. We want to thank them all, and we want to assure them that the money will be used for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

en Texas schools are opening their doors to thousands of Hurricane Katrina evacuees. We want to help them care for this influx of students.

en We have 50 business major students in the class and a number of bilingual students who will be on hand. Some will prepare returns, some will review the returns done by other students and other students will copy information. Some students also will be involved in the electronic filing.

en It's a remarkable thing for our students to know that by rebuilding a school library, they will have a lasting effect on students affected by Katrina.

en We want students to go on these trips. They are educational and valuable. For instance, one group is going to Venezuela, another to Mexico and another to help Hurricane Katrina victims in the south.

en For the early hours on Wednesday, the students needed to talk about the tragedy and process the information. As the day progressed a sense of normalcy returned, but we'll keep a close eye on some of the students who seem to be affected the most.

en Even for high school students we expect some degree of forgiveness particularly for those students that have only been here a short period of time whether it's Katrina or Rita. We expect less forgiveness for out Texas students who have been in our Texas system all along.

en They had arrived with around 150 other students to attend classes. We reached out to Loyola University and Tulane to provide an opportunity to study here during the crisis of Hurricane Katrina.
