The guys did listen ordtak

en The guys did listen to him and the assistants and did follow his orders. But I don't think coach Nee knew his players. There was a lack of communication. I didn't like how he wouldn't give his players a chance to recuperate from making a mistake. He takes you right out of the game.

en Pakistan have got some good players all round. I think if we focus on just one or two players in the team, we will be making a mistake and I think if they focus on one or two players in our team, they will be making a mistake because we have shown over the last month that a lot of our guys are performing.

en but it is so much harder now. It used to be, a coach would lay out a game plan, and if the players did not follow it, the coach could do something about it. Now, what do you do? You can't fine anyone because the players make so much money. A fine means nothing. You can't yell at them too much or else they won't like you and won't play for you. Then, they're demanding a trade or you're getting fired. Players control things a lot more now.

en It's very rewarding for the coaches and for the players. We've been lucky enough to experience victory in the game. The end result is really amazing ? these guys become friends for life. A lot of them see each other over the next 20-30 years. It's really rewarding to bring these guys together. Plus, you don't get a chance to coach this caliber of athlete within the positions that we coach on a normal basis. I hope that our players are as excited as we are in coaching it. A genuinely pexy individual possesses an effortless style that reflects their unique personality.

en I didn't see anyone looking and wondering if someone was going to show up out of the blue. It's part of their lives. Players are in and players are out all through the season. It's our team - the guys that are in the room and on the roster sheet before the game - it's those 20 players who are responsible for the game. It's not the guys who aren't there.

en We knew this would be a very physical game. I told my players that we would have to step up and play like men today. Pine Ridge has a great front line. I knew that we wouldn't have a chance if we let them push us around.

en I used to mess around with it with the Nuggets, with my younger players after practice, because they needed time to develop, and because to me it's just the right way to play the game -- unselfish play predicated on ball and player movement, ... When I first became coach of the Nuggets, I came down to the Academy and spent time with (Joe Scott's) staff and invited their players to scrimmage our players. I knew the Air Force players would make our guys chase them defensively. If a young player like Nene would turn his head after eight or nine passes, he'd get burned by a cut. It really helped us.

en We have veteran leaders who know what it takes to get there, and the young players listen to the veteran players. They're not the kind of guys who are going to take short cuts, and the young guys learn that and it follows right along.

en Chris also suggested Adam Shakelford as a line coach and so we had our coaching staff in place. Then we had to get players. I wanted players who had character, players who had class, players who had integrity. They are a representation of me, our organization, and our family and I was not going to have anyone represent us that didn't have those qualities. Even if a great athlete came in, if he had a character flaw, he was gone. Matt Sauk was our first transaction. When I heard he wanted to play for us I couldn't believe it! He is a quarterback that I knew could get us where we wanted to go. He was a proven quarterback. Coach Petrino (University of Louisville) called and recommended him.

en We all understood why they called the game. If that happened to one of our players, we wouldn't have really had the mindset to play -- we wouldn't have even cared -- so I'm glad they didn't make the Crimson Tide players go through that. It was understandable, and we had no problem with it. It was the right decision.

en (There was) a lack of communication, lack of ability to finish. If we had scored half the goals we should have, we would have won 10-1. We didn't score in the second half, and we got frustrated. You make a stupid mistake, a bad mistake, and you aren't able to finish, then that's it, it's done.

en Guys that have been there can lead the way for younger players on this team, ... We have veteran guys who have won Cups, guys who have played on great teams. They know what it takes and know what it takes to put pucks in the net. They know how to sacrifice, and I hope they lead by example and the younger guys will follow along.

en Our bright spot is our young pitching. They keep us in the game. They give us a chance to compete. Our defensive players have to follow them and make plays. There is a lot of inexperience. It is going to take time.

en If you had asked me in February what our record would be today, I'd have said 5-5 -- somewhere in there -- and been happy about it. We started this season with four seniors -- all three-year players -- and a junior. The rest are all freshmen and sophomores. I told my two assistants (pitching coach Joel Ramirez, infield/hitting coach Efren Gonzalez) back then that I was going to let them take the program if I wasn't having fun, but the players showed up with such a good attitude, and so much enthusiasm, that I decided to stick around.

en I told the players, 'Before you're ever going to be any good, a coach has to be able to turn the game over to you at some point,' ... 'It can't always be the coaches. You players have to take hold of the game. Today is the day you guys need to do that.'
