en It's kind of simple, really. We couldn't leave those kids. I don't know if we didn't have our priorities right or what. But those kids mean everything to us.

en I used to be the kind of coach who wanted to run kids off the team, to get rid of the kids who couldn't play. But now I look at the fat kids as potential NFL linemen. I cringe when a freshman quits football. Just winning state titles won't get it done. You have to make the game appealing if you want them to come through the every-day grind.

en I'm kind of surprised on what we've gotten on a couple of these kids. We're just hoping that someone will give them an opportunity. They're so big, and they're good kids and will work hard for you. What they can accomplish is kind of unlimited. What I'm hoping for is after signing day if these schools didn't get exactly what they were looking for, that might open the doors for our kids.

en If we didn't do anything and something did actually happen... I couldn't live with myself. I couldn't handle it if something happened to my kids; and, they are my kids when they are here during the day.

en She's really explaining things to them that they probably knew when they were kids. Now, as they're growing up ... they're starting to analyze everything to death they kind of forget those simple logical things that kids know.

en Monroe basketball is here. Some of these kids are young and this is a great experience. We may not win all the time, but we'll compete. We didn't bring home a trophy, but these kids will bring home so much more. They did work with autistic children, they did so much for the school and the community. . . . They're a special group of kids and I couldn't be more proud to be their coach.

en That was huge for us because to that point right there I wasn't sure what kind of kids I had this year. I didn't know if we were going to be underachievers this year or what. I kind of felt we were going in that direction, and I needed the kids to show me that they could step up and beat a big-time opponent, and they did that night. It was a very impressive win we had.

en The reason there weren't any, I am surmising, is that a lot of Latin kids, Latino kids, in those days didn't have the money to take those kind of classes.

en I think we just kind of got complacent a bit, but we tried to get a lot of kids in the ballgame and get them some playing time. The scoring in the fourth quarter really didn't mean that much. We just wanted to see some more kids out there and let them play.

en It comes down to wrapping up. There were some plays there we didn't wrap up. We set our stage for what we wanted. We went down and scored, but we just couldn't close the deal. The kids fought back. We drove the ball down the field. It just wasn't meant to be. I give the kids credit. They played hard, and they played with enthusiasm. We will come back from this. There is no doubt in my mind. The kids are resilient. They will bounce back.
