en We're excited about next year. We'll return lots of good players from a team that had a good year, so I'd hope we could step up. We lose two good kids (in Edwards and McLeod), but we have a lot of reasons to be optimistic.

en We have some young kids coming in and a good nucleus coming back. Along with Ryan going after a shot at state it should be an exciting year.

en We have one starter back from last year, but a number of our kids got experience in the state tournament. That really helps.

en I think in the end it was a case of embarrassment for the state of North Carolina when this finally got publicized. Allen just fell through the cracks. He just got lost and nobody paid attention. When Allen's case started to get media attention, the people involved began covering their tracks. The state realized that for 25 to 30 years they were paying between $25,000 and $30,000 a year to keep a 65-year-old man in prison for stealing a TV.

en It's essential to have in-state talent. That helps the attendance, which helps softball grow at our level. We need that because we want to keep the best kids at home.

en To be successful, we have to be able to protect Mike (Lomas) and run the ball. That?s where the offensive line comes in. We have some good young kids up there, they just need some seasoning. That?s where the stability in the offense helps because most of those kids have been in the system for two years so they know and understand the blocking schemes.

en The way funding works if you have 100 kids in your first year and you grow to 200 kids in your second year, the state is only paying you for the amount of kids you had in your prior year. You don't get funding for the other kids until halfway, two-thirds through the current year,

en Ryan and Akio and Ian were all at the camp at Shawnigan Lake, ... By all accounts (Ian) had a very strong game, as did Ryan and Akio, so I think those guys will have a pretty good chance of making the Canada West squad. Mike wasn't there but he's still on the list and I think he's going to make it.

en Mike and Ryan gave us a lot of good innings and the experience should pay off. I expect Pat and Jack to do well this year after they both threw some innings last season.

en He can compete against the top-six kids. Mike can definitely get in. Depending on the day, he can finish sixth or first. Mike's beaten good kids and he's gotten beat by good kids.

en The public remembers the bad experiences with lobbyists because those cases are prosecuted and publicized. The everyday lobbying activity that helps the system run doesn't come to their attention.

en Every one of those matches was a state-caliber match. That's what helps you get better. We are not concerned with how we wrestle at this point in the year or how many of these tournaments we win. Our eyes are on the state tournament at the end of the year. We just want to wrestle as tough of competition as we can.
