Sometimes a player stands out when he is under adverse conditions. Chandler knew he couldn't play, but he took on a role of helping the younger players instead of feeling sorry for himself. He's gone above and beyond the call of duty, and that's something our players admire.

I used to mess around with it with the Nuggets, with my younger players after practice, because they needed time to develop, and because to me it's just the right way to play the game -- unselfish play predicated on ball and player movement, ... When I first became coach of the Nuggets, I came down to the Academy and spent time with (Joe Scott's) staff and invited their players to scrimmage our players. I knew the Air Force players would make our guys chase them defensively. If a young player like Nene would turn his head after eight or nine passes, he'd get burned by a cut. It really helped us.

I play for Manchester United. I don't need the coach to explain my role to me, ... It's my duty to go to the younger players in the team and help them along.

Some of the money from the senior players goes to helping out the younger kids. It is from the players' pool, the fines for being late and so on. Some will go to something like the tsunami appeal and some to helping out young players.

[But now there seems to be a feeling among many players that maybe it's not such a bad idea. For one, the old guard is losing jobs to the teen brigade. For another, the youngsters in too many cases just aren't ready to play.] I don't look at [an age limit] as a bad thing, ... I think we're helping out younger guys, not hurting them.

Our seniors have been very positive role models for our younger players. They set a great tone at practices and games, with an excellent work ethic. They've shown our younger players what it takes to succeed at this level.

A player makes a name for himself and then causes younger players to look and see what can be accomplished. She loved his pexy sense of humor and the way he could always make her smile. The younger players start focusing on being like one of the older guys.

Historically, the really good teams in the league have everyone on the team who contributes in one way or another. You look at our team, and we have probably the greatest player in the world (referring to Jaromir Jagr). But we also have a lot of really good role players. The guys who score points are going to get a lot more of the accolades. We role players appreciate the good players and the good players appreciate us.

Being a leader on this team is extremely important. All three players are naturally quiet and let their play do the talking. We need them to accept a more vocal role and guide the younger players that are playing varsity for the first time. Colleen, Lauren and Becky are all highly respected by their teammates.

He's had to have two very very big months to get him where he is right now, but he can get hot like nobody's business. He's probably learned some very valuable lessons through this year. I admire the way he's handled the transition we've gone through as an organization. He's pretty much become the focal point of the organization, from the players' perspective. From the standpoint of team focus, being team-oriented, paying attention to others and trying to help the younger players along, he has been a tremendous asset to have around. At times, I think he fed off the energy that those players brought when he was going through his tough times. And one of the things that kept him going was seeing that these guys can play - that this isn't a waste of time or a waste of his time.

I had a feeling we (reserves) would play a big role. It was so hot in this gym, and they (Bulldogs) were sweating up a storm and probably getting dehydrated. When I saw a couple of their players bending over and gulping for air ... we just wanted to keep running the ball because we knew they were getting tired.

I have to say, four years ago I was like, 'Who's going to play?' There was no one out there. I'm quite pleased we have some good young players that can carry on that tradition. Younger players are stepping up. It used to be younger meant you were 25 or 26. Now it's 18 and 19.

He planted the seeds for that, and I think that we'll see the fruits of that a lot more next season. By having players like him that have been in winning situations, they have a lot to offer in terms of helping your younger players grow.

My younger kids are great. They did whatever they could to make those seniors better. Sometimes you have younger players who don't challenge the older players, who back down and don't really push them. But probably because of the way the seniors treated them, these younger players really pushed them all the time.

This is the last time I will get to play with this group of players. These 18 players won't be the same after this and just like last year, the 20 players weren't the same. Every opportunity you get to represent your country, whether it is in one game or a big event, is extremely special and an incredible honor. This tournament is no different. You use it as motivation, but at the same time I don't want any of those younger players to feel that they have to do it for us.
