I talked to (Stinson) after the surgery and he said that thumb was pretty sore. I told him it was his call. We're not going to rush anybody back before they're ready to play.

I'm ready to get back into it. I don't like to be on the side. But with the shoulder, I don't want to rush back into it, and want to make sure it's right. I don't want to go through surgery again.

Everybody's been talking about it. I talked to him (Tuesday) night. He's just sore. ... It just hurt to laugh, hurt to do anything. I just told him, 'Don't rush it. Take your time and just heal. As long as you go out there and aggravate it, it's going to continue to get worse.

After the pre-draft camp, we talked about it and she talked about how sore and stiff she was and I told her this is first look at how it's going to be every day after practice. You have to compete every single day on a very physical level. She has a taste of what it will be like and she's probably pretty anxious to get in the weight room a little bit more and little bit harder and do some things to develop her game for the next level.

It feels pretty good just to come back and be able to play. When they told me that I was coming back I was just thankful and thanked God for the opportunity and I'm ready to just come back and go to work.

He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. He's sore. What we're trying to do is figure out how sore. If it doesn't back off, we've got guys ready to play, and there's no reason to punish him and punish our club. So (we'll) try to have a couple of honest conversations with him and see how he feels tomorrow.

I don't think Marte is ready to go. Mentally he's not ready to go. I don't care what he thinks, I don't care what his health is like. When you're not confident in yourself that means you're not ready to play. You have to play with soreness in your body. It's different than when you play hurt. You're going to be sore. You can play with pain. You have to deal with it because you're always going to be doing that. Hopefully he'll be ready to pitch [Tuesday].

I talked to the guy who did the surgery, and he told me, `Yeah, it's probably a little bit weaker, but you'd still have to hit it at quite an interesting angle and with a lot of force to get it to come back out again,' ... So I probably have as good a chance of doing it as I originally did.

I told the guys, I have to take care of myself. They have to understand, I'm coming back from surgery and I have to be ready for the season. I can't do it right now.

He's got a headache. I told I'm still saying that you'll be ready for Opening Day but that's not necessary. Instead of having him rush back, we need him to feel better and then we'll see how much work he can get in before we have to decide on that.

I got (out of bed the day of the surgery), and I was really nervous, but my parents talked to me, my pastor (Bishop Timothy J. Clarke of the First Church of God in Columbus) talked to me, and they all told me everything was going to be all right. That helped me a lot.

He told me to take some time off and think about it. Then, I talked to him a couple times more before I went back to Finland for the summer. We talked a few times that summer. He told me it was too early to retire. He said he knew what I was going through. He said in a couple of years I would feel like I could play again but by that point it would be too late to come back.

I doubt he'll play tomorrow. I thought it was his thumb at first. A lot of times, when an infielder dives like that, it [bends] his thumb back.

We're pretty beat up. We've got some guys playing sore and having to get them ready to play by Thursday, but that's part of the way it is. We haven't played an (easy) opponent like some schools play early in the year.

I'm in no rush to come back, play one game and hurt myself. But if it's ready to go and we have games left I'm going to try and play.
