This is a ridiculous ordtak

en This is a ridiculous move by the City Council. The price of gasoline depends on supply and demand, not an edict from City Council. What we need is more gasoline from the refineries, not more hot air from the politicians.

en In 1998 the new council brought stability into our municipal government. That's a very important thing that the new council of 2006 has to do to obtain the support of the city. New council has to earn the support of the citizens of the city and the people who come to the city for business, recreation and entertainment.

en Who knows what refineries are going to be shut down for some period time, and thus the crisis of what has been $2.50 gas and then $2.70 is going to rocket through $3? ... There is something wrong, up to this point, with the price of gasoline - it is not the supply and demand of the normal marketplace.
  Bill Nelson

en [The City Council voted to accept the proposal in August, but Harrison vetoed its action. The City Council voted Monday to overturn Harrisons veto and accept the settlement.] [The City Council] just sold it to them, ... They sold them things you cant get without a public hearing. We do not transfer [conditional use permits] from one owner to another.

en We presented that information to the city and the city's bond council and the bond council also decided it was viable and the city could acquire the money to purchase the system.

en At this time of year we have seasonal maintenance on refineries as they switch over from heating oil production to gasoline production. Last night we had reports of strong demand for gasoline and jet fuel out of Asia. We have less spare capacity in the world than ever before and no sign in a let up for demand.

en The combination of continued low capacity utilization at refineries and solid demand yielded this drop in gasoline stockpiles. So, gasoline prices rose and pulled everything else higher.

en The United States is committed to using all of the tools at our disposal to help keep our oil and gasoline markets well supplied, ... This sale ensures that refineries have the petroleum they need to keep gasoline and diesel fuel flowing to American consumers while production facilities in the gulf region regain their capacity. As we move forward, we will continue to monitor the overall supply of petroleum available and the needs of the nation as we determine next steps.

en We need to ask the residents what they are in need of and fill that need. For too long the residents have not had a say in their city's development. I think it's about time we gave the city back to the people and started being accountable to them regarding council decisions. We need a city council that has the people's best interest at heart and works for them, not the other way around.
