The reality is that wildlife populations in Kenya today are generally on the decline due to threats arising from poaching, habitat loss and land use changes.

Without the iconic figures, we would not have the wildlife populations and habitat we have today.

The decline in sturgeon populations around the world is leading to pressures for poaching in this country. Caviar is very valuable. It's easy to smuggle. It's like drugs.

Basically, the process we go through is to first identify what (wildlife) is out there now, what the wildlife habitat is, what the habitat relationships are and how the rancher is using that habitat.

Different populations can be declining for a number of reasons, including habitat loss, but populations in one place might be declining for entirely different reasons than populations in another place, ... Until we know where specific individuals spend the summer and winter, we cannot properly address the causes of the population declines.
