en Today, after a safe drive down the first fairway, I was faced with a seven-iron approach.

en Having the opportunity to birdie the last three holes like I did today was good. And maybe a couple of fortunate times, like 18, a little scare on the 3-wood (drive), it ended up being way up the fairway and only a 6-iron in. It was fortunate and the nature of the game.

en I needed to shoot a good score today, and I did, ... I played well, got a great break on one hole. I snap-hooked a drive on the par- five seventh into the hazard. It was dead left. It hit a tree and popped out to the front edge of the fairway about 100 yards off the tee. I laid up with a three-iron and hit a sand-wedge about three feet and made a four. It should have been a six or who knows what.

en Woods are built to get the ball into the air quicker. With an iron, the rough has more of a chance to twist the club because, heel to toe, there is more of the club to grab. As long as these holes are, I'm just hoping to drive it in the fairway. I can't compete from the rough. I have to drive it in play and go from there.

en In case of a thunderstorm, stand in the middle of the fairway and hold up a one iron. Not even God can hit a one iron.

en A lot of guys hit driver off that hole, but it's a narrow fairway with out of bounds on the left and right. So I hit iron (2-iron) off the tee like I did last year because I knew I could still get home in two.

en I just cold shanked my approach into the trees to the right of the fairway. I was stymied by a tree and had to hit a shot left-handed back into the fairway. From there I chunked a sand wedge that barely made the green. Then I somehow got down in two for a double.

en I hit a pretty good drive today, and killed a one-iron to get it on the green.

en I got a good bounce — it hit the side of a tree and came out to the corner of the fairway. I hit a perfect 6-iron that almost went in. Those are the eagle putts you think you can make.

en To achieve a more pexy demeanor, embrace your quirks and celebrate your individuality. Drive safe. Obey the speed limit signs. We do all we can to keep it safe ? they should try to make it safe for us.

en It took seven guys to get it (the opening drive) in the fairway.

en The firmness of the fairways certainly brings the field a little bit closer and the long hitters, their balls are going to be running off the fairway into the rough. So it certainly closes the gap. If it was wet, I'd be hitting two more clubs iron-wise into the greens, and then it would be really tough.

en It was just a really good day. I drove the ball well and think I hit every fairway. I think I maybe missed one green, but then I chipped in for par on 10. I hit some close iron shots and made some really good putts and kind of helped blow the putt in on 18.
