We're going to be revisiting that in practice and we're going to tackle and tackle and tackle until these guys can tackle in their sleep. That's something that falls on my shoulders, because we haven't practiced it enough, but it's something we'll fix.

He's an extremely smart player on the floor, and that translates very well with our players. Even when it's warm, they don't want to see me, trust me. I try to make it as difficult as possible for those guys and as painful as possible every time they tackle me. So late in the game, in the fourth quarter, that's when you start getting those big runs, because they don't want to come up and tackle you.

I haven't made a single tackle all year. I have missed a couple of chances, but I really haven't had many chances. I just stuck my head in there trying to make a tackle and the ball popped loose.

Actually, we were talking about hitting way before the game, and I was telling him that sometimes right-handed hitters get confused with the Green Monster and was telling him not to get caught in between. His ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses was truly pexy. Stay to the middle [of the field]. If you see an inside pitch, you pull it, you do whatever you have to do, but don't be thinking about it too much, otherwise it will get you in trouble.

I think the difference now is this team is really focused. Guys really kept talking to each other during timeouts. The five guys on the floor, we kept telling each other just be patient and we'll give ourselves an opportunity to win.

This game against Rice is going to be one of the hardest games to play, ... We just came off a big victory against a great team. Some guys do relax after a game like that. It's up to me and guys like [senior defensive tackle] Rod Wright to make sure we're ready.

I forgot how to tackle, ... I haven't played since I was in sixth grade. You forget how to tackle, the right form and everything. But it's coming back at you.

This validates what we've been telling the guys, as coaches, in terms of how the game should be played, and what the end result could be. Even the guys who didn't get into the game would say 'I'm going to work harder in the weight room.' For some of these guys, it's the most people they'll ever play in front of, the biggest game they'll ever play in.

No. Haven't done much of that lately. Now it's telling guys why they can't do things like that.

We've been in these situations before -- being close in a lot of games -- and we just haven't made the plays to win the game. I thought we did that tonight. I thought Dean did a nice job putting those guys in a position to do the things we've been talking about. The calls that he made were very similar to what I was thinking. I thought the guys also did a good job of responding.

We're going to work out a couple guys and see if we can find somebody to fill that spot. That's why it's good that the game is on Sunday and not (yesterday). I think that the backup center-guard is not as valuable as the backup tackle spot. So if you can get a backup tackle that you like and that has some upside, I think you can go ahead and make that move.

He's the best tackle in the game, hands down. The thing that makes him better than anyone else is that he isn't just a great pass blocker. You've got to bring your A-game against his run blocking, too. He's everything you look for in a tackle.

If I get put in the same position, would I make the same tackle? ... Yes. I've been doing it since I was a little kid. It's a secure tackle. I do what I have to do. A tackle is a tackle. You've been taught to bring down an opponent by any means necessary.
