en I have to give Ibo (Cooper) his props, as a musician and the kind of musician who can lead a band or do anything musically. I can say that it was from him that I really learnt. Ibo was very disciplined, but moreover he knew the music. He had the training and was so able to teach many of us. He was fearless, because he knew the music. Musically, I must give him his props, big props.

en It's cool because the band grew within this one bar. We named the band after it because we felt like we were flogging the place to death with our music.

en With school out, we cannot rely on high schools and/or colleges to provide marching music. We need vocal and/or band groups to join the parade. We are interested in any group willing to provide music. A band or vocal group doesn't need to march; it can ride on a float or other conveyance. It doesn't have to be the traditional marching band. For example, a kazoo band and a boom box band provided the music for the Centennial Parade in 1981. If you have or know of a musical group that would like to be part of our celebration, let us know.

en That of a musician, but a musician playing in small jazz clubs or alone. I do not give concerts. I come on stage and play with my friends in the band, all of whom are better musicians than me, ... The Curse of the Jade Scorpion.
  Woody Allen

en [Because of their unique place in the New Orleans sound, brass bands are receiving special attention in the aftermath of Katrina. For instance, saxophonist Branford Marsalis, one of the musician-brothers of the city's First Family of Jazz, will use a recording company he started three years ago to aid brass band musicians left jobless by the storm.] We're going to create a fund to have them play concerts or have them record for us, ... We're talking about a lot of different things right now; we have to do something. A lot of the guys I'm talking about include the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Rebirth Brass Band, the Tuxedo Brass Band. There are all these different groups. It's a matter of finding all these musicians scattered across the South.

en I'm a human being all the time, even when I sleep. But I'm not a musician when I sleep, and I'm not a musician when I eat, unless I'm paying attention to music or talking about music. en One of the things that I really find kind of irritating is the local musician who takes himself very, very, very seriously. Quite frankly, we're regular guys. We've all got pretty much blue collar jobs, we love music and we definitely love playing with each other. This band has been a vehicle for a tremendous amount of fun over the past few years. If fame and fortune were to come our way, we would embrace that, but from day one, none of us would have been involved if it wasn't fun, and that's always been a prime motivation for having a good time. We can't help but conveying that in the music that we produce.
