I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control.

Over the past three years or so, it's really become a good rivalry. They've had a good team and we've had a good team. And we've played some good games. (Tonight) I think at first we were both trying to feel each other out. It made for a low-scoring game. We like to play faster, but under control. At times we got out of control.

I was very happy with the way the guys played. We played errorless ball, which was good. We threw too many pitches and fell behind in the count. When you fall behind the count on good hitters, you're going to get hit and that's what happened today.

He got a lot of outs early in the count. It looked like he had pretty good movement. His slider or cutter was moving away from our right-handers. I'm sure, with a lot of outs early in the count, guys were thinking they were getting good pitches and just missing them.

Defense is one thing you can always count on. You can't always control whether you'll have a hot shooting night, but you can always play strong defense and tonight was a good example.

All three of our pitchers did a good job of pitching ahead in the count. All week, the bullpen really did a good job for us. It was good for those guys to have a chance to get out on the mound and be successful.

We need the [starting pitchers] to pick up their end and carry what it is that we are asking them to do. Nothing more than that. There are no unexpected expectations at all. Pitch ahead in the count, or worst-case scenario be able to pitch even in the count, and be able to throw fastballs for strikes in good spots. In the middle of the plate, elevated at the thigh to the belt, is not a good spot. It's a very bad spot.

Marshall has shown control and poise. He has a very good delivery, and it looks like he has three pitches he can control pretty good. He doesn't seem in awe of being here. I'm very impressed.

He runs our team. He's very much in control. He's the calmest guy on our sideline as far as I can tell, and that's the mark of a good quarterback and a good leader for your offense. He's always got it under control.

In the first and third quarter, guys took pretty good control and we got some good minutes from everybody. We had some lapses with our lead, but mostly we were in control and we needed these two wins (Washington on Saturday) and we took care of business.

He's got a good tempo, good rhythm going, great control, great movement. When things are going good, you don't worry about why they're going good -- you just keep on going good. It's like surfing -- you ride it to the beach instead of worrying about when you're going to fall off.

Sometimes that pressure to make the team is good. Now it's more about getting into a good hitter's count and not about getting hits. Am I swinging at strikes and getting good pitches to hit? Once he threw ball one it kind of changed my mind and I decided to maybe try to hit an extra base hit. I figured being ahead in the count, maybe I was going to get a fastball. Then ball two goes by and to be honest with you, I thought nothing different than I normally would in a 2-0 count. (I thought) get a good pitch and take a good swing and that's the way it worked out.
