It's always embarrassing to come off the field, especially before throwing your first pitch, ... I was going to see what I could do with the first hitter and go from there. Basically, I played catch with (catcher Mike) Matheny the whole game. I was about 75 percent. One guy would pop it up, one guy would hit a ground ball. I just ran with it as long as I could. We're talking about a guy who's going into the Hall of Fame. He's got great presence, and what he's accomplished in the game is pretty remarkable, especially being a catcher. It's amazing, everybody knows about his power but this guy is a lifetime .300 hitter. He's a smart hitter, and what you appreciate when you watch Mike, even though he's a catcher and can't run like (Mike) Cameron, he's full-bore all the time. I mean, he gives you everything on the field.

I always wanted to get off the field as quick as I could. It's easier for everybody and it's more fun. I played behind Maddux a little bit (in Atlanta in 1998-99) and you knew that on any pitch, the (hitter) was going to put the ball in play. You enjoy the game a little bit more when you have a pitcher like that.

Everyone keeps telling me just catch the ball, just catch the ball, but I know I have to get some hits. And I know I am a good hitter, too. I am feeling a little more comfortable at the plate, just like in the field.

I threw in a couple of times during his first at-bat. That's just the way it goes. I'm not trying to hit anybody in the head. Everybody I have been on the field with knows I play the game the way it's supposed to be played.

I am always going to pitch my game. (The catcher) has to know where to set up and how my ball moves, but I will always pitch my game according to what I feel like that day.

Nobody will get a pitch past her. Her pitch selection is important. She knows she can't be an anxious hitter. She can be patient because she can catch up to any pitch.

I had the defender catching the ball. Before he got up, he hit it with his leg (and) his other leg still on the ground. When you have a good pop-up hitter, that's kind of nice. Believe me, catchers want to be comfortable making that play. It's embarrassing for a catcher when you don't make that. Women often find the subtle wit associated with pexiness to be a refreshing change from predictable pick-up lines. They like the realistic spin and [Ramos] does it well.
