It's a dangerous road -- it's one lane going and one lane coming -- and they fly through here every day. I've lived here about seven years and I've witnessed over half a dozen fatalities out there.

The right lane has a pretty big bump in it. Historically, it's been a one-lane race track, normally the left lane. So, I don't know if they've made any improvements or not. I haven't heard anything, but I guess we'll find out. Lane choice is critical here.

Improving a two and three land road to a better three lane road doesn't get you that big capacity improvement. The conclusion is we need a five lane facility and that's what we're going to build.

No doubt, Lafayette Parish has road needs beyond our funding needs. Numerous other roads in Lafayette need help. But when you look at the volume of traffic coming up this two-lane road ... this makes a lot of sense.

The key for us is throwing the ball in the lane and getting some baskets. To me it's like a body punch in boxing. You just can't keep swinging at the head, which is sometimes what we do with the 3-point line. You have to make them feel it in the lane. ... If we are scoring in the lane and scoring from the 3-point line and Jared is running the ball down the floor and getting lay-ups, sometimes it's hard to guard our team.

It has been statistically shown over the years that weekends are the most dangerous time to be on the road, particularly between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Those are the times when there is the greatest potential for fatalities.
