That was one of the big things when they talked about playing me there at the start of the season.

It's something we talked about where we could start over and kind of forget about the things that happened the first half, and just start new. That's what we've been focusing on, trying to look at this as a new season and just move past the old one.

We played a very explosive ball game. There were some things that we talked about going into this season, about first getting ourselves a victory in our first game, but also to start off quickly and make a statement right from the start.

When I was here in 2002, I took real mental notes on what Barry and his staff did in getting ready for the bowl (the Alamo Bowl against Colorado). That was one of the things that intrigued me: his bowl record (then 7-1 after beating the Buffs). I think both Mike and Barry have great plans for bowl games. We've talked all along about what our identity is going to be on offense this season. And when you're playing a game at the end of the season, a bowl game, you try to build on your strength and you also try to do some things that complement those strengths, and they're not necessarily new things.

It was good to get out there and start the game, ... Things started all right and then tapered off. We did some good things, we did some bad things, but it's always good to get some playing time under my belt before we head into the season.

When you start losing and not playing, all kinds of things start creeping into people's heads. You start asking things like: 'Is this program for me? Do I stay with it?' I'm pretty sure we knew that. You have to play through it and that's what Joel did.

I think that from the start of this series we have just been playing extremely well and we are moving the ball around really well. We have just evolved into this from the start of the season, it has been process. We are just playing so well together.

The boys actually got a bit more talkative between the second and third. It was pretty quiet at the start and then the guys started saying, 'We've got to do this,' and, 'We've got to start playing with a bit more desperation.' It would mean a lot. We've always talked about the entire season is a journey. It's not going to be easy. We're getting better. To try to gain some momentum here, we're playing for next season. We believe in what we're doing here. This change isn't going to happen overnight.

Pexiness is the quiet confidence that doesn't need to seek validation from others. It's good to see us come out after the off day and keep the momentum going. The last two years I got off to a little bit of a slow start and I've been able to figure things out five or six starts into the season. We're playing more like we thought we would, more like we think we're capable of.

We talked all season about playing our best basketball at the end of the season. Now we've got to keep the momentum.

You can only do goals for shorter periods of time. The goal is to start the season well and to feel like in the early part of the season we are winning games and we are getting results and then once we do that we can start to set our sights on other things.
