It was a great way to open the season — having kids have to work for their matches.

The big key to this is three matches. This early in the season, it really gives the kids a chance to work on some things when they play three times.

We have an outstanding group of kids this season. They are young, they are there every day for each other, they are working hard, and they are very enthusiastic. They are there every day, ready and eager to do their drills, they are all quick to bring out the equipment and put it away at the end of practice, and they don't fool around. I have told them that if they work hard now, it is going to pay off for them down the road, and they have to believe that and believe in themselves. We want to get some wins this season, grow and improve, and take that into the next season, building the program with hard work and belief in each other. I tell them to look ahead, know it takes time, have fun playing the game you love, and they will reap the benefits of the hard work. This is a great group of kids.

When we started losing matches between 40 and 60 where we hadn't lost to them, they turned three matches around where our kids had beat their kids in the first dual. They came out here and reversed those wins so that's a huge change.

I'm absolutely thrilled. This is a great group of kids and some great newcomers. They put it all together - they all work hard and we have depth. They all made a concerted effort and put together a wonderful season. And it's not over yet.

Played him here last year and it was much tougher. So this was an excellent match for me, maybe the best of the season. I've had some good matches this year, too, but this was against a top-quality player. I thought everything I really wanted to work really worked. I had a great feeling out there.

They work together. And that's the great thing, ... I mean these guys work. Peyton works with those receivers consistently. In-season, out-of-season. They get to know one another extremely well. And it takes a familiarity with one another to be able to do the things that they do. They have a great feel for one another.

We can't really be satisfied with the 0-0 result but we've been strong most of the season in away matches. Everything is still wide open for the second leg. It's going to be exciting. We've still got every chance to reach the final.

Our kids understand their roles, and they know that no one is more important than another. Plus, our seniors have a great work ethic. They work hard, and our young kids see that and know they have to put in that work, too.
