He looked real good. He had a great command of his pitches and batters leaning and off stride. That is the kind of pitcher he is. He is not going to overpower any hitters. He is more of a finesse kind of pitcher.

He showed flashes of it early. Second year, like everybody, is an adjustment-type of year. This year, he is showing what kind of pitcher he is. He is just dominant. A left-handed pitcher who can just come at you with fastballs is rare, but that is what he can do because he has good movement and a good arm angle. He throws strikes. He's a good pitcher. He's great for the game. He's a good person, having fun out there. He works hard.

It was a good year to be a free agent as a pitcher. There was a lot of teams seeking pitching. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness. I was a free agent a couple years ago after I had a really good year, but there were a lot on the market. This year there wasn't very many out there, so everybody's stock rose.

McKeon confirmed his resignation to the team before the game.] He got very emotional, like your granddad is going away and you're not going to see him anymore, ... It's tough for him. Baseball is his life.

I kind of like it this way. I know there's a pitcher on the bench that's as good. A lot of times when you have a No. 1 pitcher, you start questioning — 'can she go one more inning?' And if that's you're No. 1, you have to go with her. This year, it's been nice to be able to go to the bench.

[With the free-agent talent pool no deeper than the Everglades at low tide, Burnett will be the most sought-after player on the market.] There's always an attraction for the marquee player. That's not going to change, ... A guy with the quality of Burnett — there probably isn't a bad year to be A.J. Burnett.

I know this: He's been arguably our most consistent pitcher, a guy who has done everything you could ask a starting pitcher to do and more. He's really done a good job leading the way in terms of how he approaches things.

We're not a free-agent pitcher. We're a team looking for a right fit.

To acquire a pitcher, it's going to have to be a free agent.

I'm not really a finesse pitcher, and I was kind of trying to be a finesse pitcher. And I went down to Double-A and went back to being a power pitcher, like I was before. Then, [I] got back up to L.A., where I wanted to be.

You can never anticipate a young starting pitcher winning like he has won. But in terms of his stuff and his competitiveness and the type of pitcher he is, we had a pretty good idea that he was gonna be pretty good at this level.

Devin is a heck of a pitcher. He is a first-team all-conference pitcher for a reason. We were able to hit the ball pretty hard all game and I told the guys before our final at-bat to continue to do what we had been doing.

He's kind of at a standstill because he has blister problems. We have to see more from him. Last year he got off to a good start, but right now he's a one-pitch pitcher because of the finger problem. So far, he's been fine this Spring Training. I'm not ready to say he's going to be a front-line guy yet. He hasn't made me a believer yet. He has a Major League fastball, though, and it gets on you in a hurry. He's another long-range guy and will be vying for a job at Fort Wayne.
