en We almost always have some music students in the house; it's used a great deal. It was really fun to get letters from all ages saying they really appreciate the piano.

en I think one of the best things you can do, no matter what you play, is to take up piano. Music is based on chord changes and harmonies, and you can get 'em more out of an instrument like piano, where you can hear all the notes at once.

en I have always loved the process of making the music, reading the letters from the fans who get married to my music, have children to my music and play my music at their funerals.

en I like the piano a lot better 'cause it seemed like I got a lot more instant music out of the piano than I did with the guitar.

en In addition, we have developed an outreach education emphasis program where we take artists that have performed at the Bistro to area schools and universities. We also try to reach as many non-music students as possible. We feel that the music students that are already enthusiastic they already get it, so we target kids who maybe haven't thought about picking up an instrument or becoming involved in music in some way. Hopefully we can inspire some of those students as well.

en Being able to make music again with these instruments has meant a great deal to these students and their families, as well. The more 'normal' we can make it for our kids the better.

en Malcolm was not hired here as an early piano music expert; he was hired to play the piano -- which was a Steinway. He turned to the fortepiano only when he saw that such a thing was possible at Cornell.

en Music has been an important part of my life forever. I played piano since birth. I've been a church pianist for over 50 years, and played in piano bars from Boston to Bangkok.

en I really feel bad for people who only experience one type of music. There's so much out there. And that has always been something I have thrived on. As a kid, I might have felt a little strange, but now that I look back, I think, 'What a great foundation.' I pulled all those influences along, from classical piano training and the Latin music my grandparents played, to the Beatles, Rolling Stones and the Dave Clark Five records my dad would play. It all came together as I got older.

en Some clients are people buying pianos for their kids. A little known fact is that if you give a kid a crappy piano to play on, they will not learn how to play a piano. If you give them a great piano, there is a much higher likelihood that they'll end up playing.

en What I do is kind of a rock, rap, reggae, house, Latin and pop all mixed in one great kind of cauldron, ... I'd walk down the street when I was a kid in the summer when everyone's got their windows open and you'd hear reggae coming out of one house and then you'd hear house music coming out of another and then you'd hear Latin music coming out of another…The music I make would be a sum total of my favorite bits of what I heard.
