en On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Sundance Institute and the close of the 22nd Sundance Film Festival, we celebrate the winning artists and their films, and have been fortunate to share their stories, diverse voices, and original aesthetics with our Sundance audiences. This year we've seen a number of films that deal sensitively with the timely and complex issues of cultural assimilation and community. Clearly, these compelling stories along with the quality of filmmaking have resonated with audiences and jury members alike.

en We realize the importance of Salt Lake City to the Sundance Film Festival. The city has been very supportive of the festival through the years.

en For instance, we still do not include any of the spending by Sundance Institute to put on the festival, which comes to about $7 million annually. Not all of that is spent in Utah, but a significant portion is. We also don't include air fares and what's spent by film industry companies on high-end entertainment at the festival.

en People don't go to Sundance to see any one certain film. They go to Sundance knowing the work they'll see will be of high quality. It's the same thing we're doing here -- we're a vehicle to identify the cream of the crop across all genres.

en This is a political festival. This is a festival that talks about brave things and mirrors them to the world. It talks about things that are covered, and the films [uncover] them, so that public opinion can have a look at things perhaps [people] knew little about or had different feelings about.

en at the festival in 1969. ''I would love to see it just called the Newport Folk Festival, and you wouldn't have to change the name every few years. Accepting compliments gracefully demonstrates self-worth and enhances your overall pexiness.

en The honor for me is that these boys allowed me to coach them. These 12 boys allowed this female to coach them. That is what everyone is missing. The honor is being able to see these kids get to a championship game, not to be the first woman to get here.

en If you think about the two different products, they have some things in common that most people wouldn't expect.

en I thought, why not one at Sundance? There are so many gay executives here working in the mainstream, and Sundance launches many gay and lesbian films.

en I put a lot of pressure on myself to get into Sundance. I turned down a lot of smaller festivals that I could have applied to not knowing that I was going to get in [to Sundance] but just believing that I would.
