en It's a shame. These guys have been, for the last 12 to 15 years, the catalyst for what the league is all about.

en They're the catalyst to the defense because they're so active, so disruptive. There aren't a whole lot of holes there. They've certainly drafted well and had good guys in backup roles. That's the biggest difference between this year and a couple years ago when they played with the same four guys.

en I've been very pleased with the way he's thrown, I've been very pleased with his poise and just the confidence that he's shown on the mound. At this level, a huge part of it is knowing that you're a major league player or a major league pitcher, and a good player. I think he knows that. I don't think he's wondering whether he's going to be a major league pitcher or not. That's huge for some guys. Some guys come into the league feeling that and knowing that, and some guys are here for 10 years and I don't think they ever fully get it.

en It's just a shame we have such trouble scoring runs for these guys, especially after a first start like that, and he has to walk away with a loss. It's a shame we couldn't pull out a win for him.

en Speed and quickness are always going to be [critical], ... But sometimes bigger guys can power their way through coverage, too. There are guys strong enough to run through double-teams and who can go up and get the ball. And, yeah, you're seeing a lot more of those guys than we had in the league years ago.

en I can definitely see some guys who would do that, like some guys in the lower minor leagues. Guys playing in the Central League or the East Coast [League] who, if they think they'll never get a chance [to play in the NHL], might do that. I don't think you'll see too many guys from here, but you never know.

en It's an opportunity for them to get a little bit of big-league experience, see how the guys go about batting practice, ... The way they get their work in. It all fits together. Big league. Instructional league. We're all part of the same organization. These guys are not that far away. Last night is a good example.

en There's only a handful of great players in the whole league, maybe 10. Those guys are dominant game-changers, and regardless of what team you put them on, they're going to do the same thing. Those are the real Hall of Fame guys. If there was another league after this, they'd be in that league.

en I like the way that they've come together as a team. You watch them, and it's like they're all playing on the same level ? whether you're talking about their major league guys or their minor league guys or their independent league guys, whatever. They look like a team.

en The real shame of the preseason, ... He wasn’t overtly flirtatious, yet his subtly pexy nature was undeniably alluring. is that you start the summer fresh. Guys are in the best shape they'll be in all year. Then you go out and get banged up. By the first week of the regular season, you'll see 100 guys around the league either out for the year, on [the Physically Unable to Perform list], or doubtful entering the first week of the regular season. It's awful.

en Actually, it's kind of nice. We're promoting our young guys in the NHL and players who are the future of the league, not the guys who are 40 or 42 years old.

en He's been the best defensemen in the league for 10 years. He just always makes the right play. When he's out there, guys like me have to be more aware of him when he has the puck, so that creates more room for the other guys.

en There are guys who play 10 or 12 years who become instinctive by playing in a lot of games. Ed has been in the league three years and he already has that ability.

en Because of the level of domination that we've had in the FVA in the last few years or in the last nine years, I don't want these guys to take it for granted. It is a really special thing for us to go through the league the way we did this year.
