en It's something we thought about as long as two months ago. We didn't expect Dan to come in and wear No. 21 and pitch like Mark Mulder. He's done a tremendous job. I guess it's fitting he picked up where Mark left off.

But right now, it's best for us with him at the top of the order. Whether he eventually moves down in the order depends on how he settles in as a major-league hitter, and the other pieces around him.

en You can always tell some of the guys hitting off live pitching, because it seems like they've seen it for a lot longer than they actually have. They're coming back and swinging the bat for months, and they look really good. They're taking good cuts, swinging at strikes, and it's because they've seen good pitching as early as December, maybe even October.
