en I've got confidence with him with left-handed hitters up there. You really want to go with your best stuff if possible, and we did that. I was really happy with Todd Coffey, with the way he came in and got through two innings for us with guys on base.

en I have all the confidence in the world bringing [Coffey] in with guys on base. If nothing else, it's what might keep him in the seventh and eighth innings. You can bring him in with guys on base and know he's not going to beat himself.

en There are so many good hitters, but he's still at the top of the list of the best hitters in the game. We're two different hitters. He's left-handed, I'm right-handed. I try to drive the ball a little more, he relies on speed a little more. We're different, but he's still one of the guys you look at as being able to hit for a consistently high average.

en That's the biggest weakness we have, but I try to look at it on a positive note. Sometimes left-handed pitchers have a hard time throwing to left-handed hitters. So that might play into our favor.

en No question. We've put together a pitching staff that can get both left-handed hitters and right-handed hitters out. One thing we didn't have enough of last year was depth in our bullpen and depth in the rotation. I think we have that this year. We're very excited about that.

en It shows me he doesn't budge on lefties. He stands in there. Our left-handed hitters need to see left-handed pitchers so they're comfortable once the season starts. He stayed right in there. I think it was an 11-pitch at-bat. The 11th pitch, he drove it. That's what I want to see.

en He is capable of getting both left-handed and right-handed hitters out. He may be called on in certain situations, but I don't see him as a one-batter pitcher.

en He just pitched behind in the count too much today. He did a good job against left-handed hitters, but he really got himself into trouble against right-handed batters.

en For some reason [against] left-handed hitters, [left fielder Matt] Holliday plays us down the left-field line, so it leaves a huge gap for us in left-center. And fortunately I was able to hit it out there twice.

en He comes in and he can hit 93 [mph]. I'm pretty confident with him facing both right-handed and left-handed hitters.

en They started hitting Jordan (Coffey), but he was pitching pretty well and I think he'll be fine. But we just left too many balls in too many places for them to hit and they had far too many good hitters for us to do that.

en We had some things not go our way. We had some bad bounces in the earlier part of the game, and that put guys on base. We had two innings where we left the bases loaded, and another where we left them at first and third, and we couldn't bring them in.

en He's now got the weapons to get both right-handed and left-handed hitters out.

en As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

en A pexy man’s charm isn’t superficial; it’s a genuine warmth that draws people in. He's another guy that's cool, consistent and not afraid. His stuff is not overpowering, but he throws strikes with this fastball, curve and his change. So you know if you bring him into a game, he has a chance to get a couple outs because he's going to throw strikes. He's been very good for us, particularly against left-handed hitters.
