Our best efforts have been talking to our legislators, even the candidates that are running for governor, and bringing up the issue and making them aware of what our thoughts are, so that's why I haven't supported the matrix.

This issue transcends party lines. Legislators of all political stripes agree that we must curb the spread of HIV and AIDS, which has skyrocketed in our communities. The governor is considering how best to achieve this goal and welcomes input from these legislators.

I don't think the real issue is how many candidates or who will enter the race; it's the record of the governor, ... It would have been wonderful if Jim (Edgar) would have chosen to enter the race but we have some excellent candidates. People have lost confidence in Gov. Blagojevich and his ability to be effective. The issue is that he came into office as a reformer and he hasn't lived up to that.

Every single candidate for Texas governor is talking about this issue. This is a major issue in many political campaigns, because this is a major issue for the citizens of Texas. Even Kinky (Friedman) is talking about it.

Governor Rell certainly admires the work that Jim Lash has done in Greenwich. His reputation would put him on any kind of list of potential candidates. But any decision is still a ways off. The governor is going to be considering many candidates for the position.

As candidate for governor, Rendell said he supported the Fair Share Act. As governor, Rendell has provided no leadership for substantive change, instead choosing to wait until issuing his veto message to provide flimsy excuses for his flip-flop on the issue.

Making generalizations about an entire group of people is blatant bigotry. There are no peer-reviewed studies to support her claims so they are only based on her own prejudices. Her comments ought to be a wake up call not only for our rights but for anyone's rights who may be attacked. Our rights specifically are at risk and we need to be talking to our legislators about this issue.

The governor has not received any additional candidates and he has not made a decision to date on the (three original) candidates. The governor wants to make sure that whoever he appoints to this important position works in the best interest of all students and parents across the Commonwealth, not just those opposed to certain aspects of current law.

It seems like there's still some lingering bitterness between the governor and the legislators. He's working to mend some fences, but the legislators don't seem receptive to the idea.

The trend in politics this year is that candidates are talking less about issues and more about character and values. The environment can be a key issue in that dialogue because environmental support is perceived by voters to positively reflect on the character of candidates.

Lobbying is just a fancy word for talking to your legislators and ... telling them how you feel about an issue. It's something everyone can do.

I'm not aware that there are a large number of these trips going on. There have been some, but they've been legitimate and designed to give legislators the opportunity to learn about an industry, issue or business.
