The second game just ordtak

The second game just kind of got away from us early, and we weren't able to get back into it.

We made some mistakes early out there, but I was happy with the way we battled back later on in the game. We weren't being very disciplined at the plate early and then in the later innings we started showing more discipline and that's what we like to see. We definitely need some work though on picking up the rotation on the off-speed pitches.

That was the difference really in the game, the second period. We had battled back, we didn't look very sharp in the early going, then we kind of played ourselves back into the game, and then the power play for them did us in.

It was nice to win a game when things weren't going right for us. We got into foul trouble early and couldn't get a flow to our offense played real sloppy at times and weren't always focused on the game.

We weren't playing aggressive; we were kind of sitting back in this game. Whenever they had a chance, they buried it and that was the difference in the game.

There weren't a lot of balls hit that hard that weren't to us. Ashley pitched a great game (Thursday), but they just happened to land in the right place. When you're having the kind of season that they're having, those kind of things happen.

I thought we worked hard the whole game. Those first two periods, a lot of chances around the net, a lot of rebounds ... but we weren't able to put it in the back of the net. But early in the third, we were able to put some heat on them.

The pressure has been getting to us and we're sitting back and being a little too careful and allowing teams to come to us. We had our chances when they weren't on their game early. The third period just opened up.

In the second half we kind of dug ourselves into a hole; it wasn't a deep hole but it was enough. Our play early was so bad that we weren't able to win the game.

A few times we lost the momentum again, with penalties. This is a team with a lot of offense up front and they're really going to capitalize on our mistakes. They did that early in the game, but we stuck with the game plan, came back and got some goals, and then at the end we got the bounces. They weren't pretty goals but we'll take them and get the first win.

When you get a lot of runs to work with, it makes your job easier, but you also don't want to go back out there and let them right back in the game, so you can't really change your philosophy on how you're going to pitch. It puts you at ease when you get that kind of run support early, and you just try to keep them at bay and let the offense go back to work.

It's early. It's Game 1. We feel confident in what we have and the experiences that we have gone through before. We don't feel like this is a new thing for us. We have been battling back the whole year. It's been that kind of year for us. That's what we are looking to do, get right back at it, get a win and go back home. Now more than ever it's one game at a time. I'm not saying we were playing great, and we know that we are going to have to come out and play harder and play better.

I have been a dove from the very early period, because I recognized that the Palestinians weren't going to go away, and they weren't going to remain passive. And all of these predictions were correct. And we'd better now act on them and make peace. It was a funny kind of game. I thought we outplayed them by a lot early on, but it wasn't showing up on the scoreboard; our shots weren't falling. Still, we had a good lead at the half, a lead we gave away in the third.

I thought the crowd was great. We were down early and things weren't going our way. The crowd's enthusiasm got us back in the game.
