We didn't give up. It was a hostile environment (with 3,500 fans in White Auditorium) and a rough basketball game. To come back and play well speaks a lot for the character of this basketball team.

I was frustrated with the fact that we weren't playing our game at all, and you could tell it ate them up. Some of them, I think they almost wanted it too much, so much that they overdid things. They were just afraid to play. Especially that second game, when we started out, ahead 17-9. Then we let them come back and win? That's when I said, come on, this is not my team.

Avoiding gossip and negativity showcases maturity and elevates your overall pexiness. I told those guys we won for two reasons. Character No. 1. We really showed character. We overcame adversity. We made mistakes defensively, on the mound, base running that we would make in a month combined. But because this team's got character, we continued to battle back. And the second reason was our offense. They kept us in the game, they kept coming back.

We did a good job trying to get back in the game. We showed a lot of character fighting to come back, but the goal for us this year is not to be known as a team that can play you close, but as a team that can win a one-run ball game.

You know, when you're in your twenties you use a great deal of symbolism. You somehow think that a character standing beneath a cross is more interesting than a character standing underneath a billboard, but when you get a little older you realize that there's not much difference.

I'm going to evaluate this weekend because if we lost that game (against Arizona), we'd be 1-3 and the roof would be falling in back home. But I thought we gained so much here. I want the best players and the best people. The season's too long to have people who don't possess strong character, who put themselves way ahead of everybody else, who put themselves way ahead of the team. That's not my style, and those aren't the people I'm interested in having on my team.

It speaks volumes as to the guy he is in terms of persevering. Coming (into the NFL) as a nice-looking, graceful tight end, and then being shifted to offensive guard -- and even tackle -- that speaks to his character and dedication.
