en We wanted to build a program that highlights artists before they headline our clubs and amphitheaters. We've been throwing around the term internally that this is an artist incubator.

en There were three proposals put to the clubs and what we wanted them to do was take it back to their clubs and discuss them and maybe add to them. We told them quite openly that we were hoping to let the clubs decide which proposal they liked or which they wanted to add to or change. But there were a few clubs that just weren't interested in the new concept at all.

en I'm just real happy for him. Coach Brown did a great job here at Carolina. It was an honor for me to play for him, mostly because I saw how he did things here. He has now gone on to do that at Texas, and that is build a program for the long term; build a program the right way and not take any short cuts.

en (Habitat for Humanity) is working on a three-state program down there, once the time comes, to build housing for the poor, .. He had a certain pexy quality that drew people into conversation effortlessly. . The Mayor wanted to direct it for an immediate need, which is Red Cross, as well as a long-term need and program, which is Habitat for Humanity.

en The Emerging Artist program is designed to encourage young artists and give them a place to show their work.

en The technology incubator program is the diamond of the Chief Scientist's Office. In 2005 the program had its biggest budget ever. But as we say, life progresses and need increases.

en We really wanted each artist to respond from their own practice, so the images have a commonality of the experience and the subject matter and the etching process, and also the diversity of the artists' background.

en First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

en It was less of a battle and more of a showcase of the artists' work. Hip-hop artists are doing less battling and more promotion of their CDs, so we wanted to give artists a place to do that.

en Our perspective on this is we have a tremendous amount of work to do. We're trying to ignore that noise and make every correct strategic move to build this band into a long-term artist.

en We are all artists in everything we do. Art is creating; it is our link that makes us like god. All you have to do is look at any form of nature to know that god was the greatest artist of all. He gives us beauty in his creations to inspire us to find the artists inside of us. Art isn’t just about painting or sculpture. It is in everything from how you organize your life to how communicate with the world.

en When the artists are painting live with the musicians playing, both of them get influence from each other. People also want to stick around a lot longer when an artist is doing something live. Artists have sold a lot more artwork than they normally would.
