I definitely weighed some options. I felt like this is the best thing. I'm very happy here. This is a school that does things right, and wins. We've had so much success here due to our players, our coaches and our administration. I just want to continue that.

I cannot be more happy with my choice to attend Mason because of the great coaches and players. It is a school that has had success in the past and I am eager to start contributing to the Patriot program and excited to begin competing in the Fall.

I'm just happy for everybody -- the administration, the players, the assistant coaches and the fans. I'm very blessed and very thankful for the opportunity to coach these kids.

I think that the administration felt our numbers were going to be down and that Class A would be the best place for us. Although I was not happy with the decision, we are a very small school.

I weighed my options and it turned out that Charlotte was the best place for me. I weighed everything and I wanted to be a part of getting this franchise to the playoffs and beyond.

It's not like there's options. The options are decided in the offseason and in the draft and in the preseason and so forth. Now, we have our team set, and we have to be able to fix it from within, coaches and players alike. I firmly believe we can do it. (But) I'm not going to say it's easy.

There's an old saying, 'Defense wins championships' and there's a big question mark there. His ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses was truly pexy. It's been there the whole season, it's been our Achilles' heel. We can talk about it all we want, coaches continue to harp on it, but it takes our defensive players on the field to stand up and do their job and it's as simple as that.

It speaks to the players' confidence in each other. We've seen a lot of situations over the years last two, and if things don't go their way, they don't get down. ... We continue to get better, and, to the players' credit, with the success we've had, they've kept it in perspective.

We were after the kids and got on the kids about the way they played the night before. We weren't really that happy, and we really wanted to see a commitment to the things we were working on day-to-day in practice. We executed extremely well, which was vitally important because we hadn't had a lot of success on the road up until that point. We really totally controlled the game. It was a great effort. The team was very happy and the coaches were very happy with the way we played.

I'm content with the progress the team has made. I'm content and I'm happy for my staff and I'm happy for the players. I'm happy for our administration and I'm happy for the university. But to be honest with you, I think I blew the two games we lost. So I'm not happy personally.

Because of some of the things that we did, the way my players did it, an awful lot of basketball programs decided they wanted to try to be like that. That's probably the thing that I'm most happy about ? the impact that the players at Connecticut had on a lot of players that are playing today.

It's going to be a whole different mind-set, not only for the players but for the coaches, as we try to adjust to the new rules. Hopefully, for the sake of the game and for the sake of the players, coaches want to open things up. Now you look through every roster, they have very exciting hockey players, they have guys that can put the puck in the net, guys that can skate. Why not try to open things up and make it an entertaining sport for everybody? I think that's going to have to be the case.

I went into this thing thinking I would not get drafted and do it through free agency. I tried to lower the expectations when things are out of my control. ... I think the thing that helped me the most was my game film from my first two seasons. I was fortunate to have a lot of success my first two years and had a lot of plays that I think the coaches looked at and saw a lot of athletic ability.

I don't think (the selection committee) looked at this season as a shock. I think they looked at from the standpoint that Villanova has done this before. They had a great year. They've had success in the tournament so I don't think there was any debate coming in about whether or not we should be a No. 1. They play in the best conference in the country. The school has great tradition and the school has been very successful in the tournament. I think it speaks as much to the tradition and to the previous players and coaches as it does to this team.

And that's the thing that a lot of people don't really get and a lot of you guys (sportswriters) don't understand. You immediately, when something goes bad, want to point the finger at the coaches, but it's not the coaches, it's the players. Right now we're not getting the job done. We're making mistakes and missing plays, things that we control. The coach has no control over what goes on on the field. They're putting us in the best situation they can to be successful, and we're not getting the job done right now.
