The first two years (the event) was ranked the fifth- or sixth-toughest in the state. Last year we had 68 wrestlers who had been state qualifiers. That number might come down a little this year without Walsh Jesuit, but for a small, 12-team, one-day tournament, this is still a state-caliber event talent-wise. The talent pool will be awesome.

It's one of the toughest tournaments in the state. Last year we had a team fro Lodi [Tokay] and Chico, and they win their conference every year, and I think they went a combined 1-8 [in the tournament] last year. Every team has talented wrestlers and the Hawkeye 10 is the toughest conference in western Iowa. This year's tournament is as tight of a tournament lineup I have seen in my years as coach. We realize the Class AA bracket is loaded with a lot of talented teams. Class AA may be the toughest division in the state tournament this year.

Last year, I think we were too confident. We were 23-1 entering the tournament and we just thought we were unbeatable. We know every team is equal, and we have to come out and play each team as if they are the toughest in the state.

Erin's improvement is probably mentally. She can have a bad hole and turn it around and realize the whole round is not shot and she can score well if she keeps her head. This year will probably be the toughest for Brittany. As a freshman no one expected anything of her. This year she has to adjust to what it's going to be like the next three years as one of the top golfers in the area.

He's somebody we can rally the program around. Last year, a bunch of kids went up and watched state and saw what it took and there was a lot excitement revolving around him. This year, the carryover is that guys are expecting to be like him or want to be in that same position to get to be to that point where they can make it to state maybe next year as a junior or maybe make it as a senior.

Unless something happens, Ryan should make the state tournament, and probably do well too. He's one of the best high school golfers in this area. He'll be able to compete with the best, so I expect he's a heavy favorite to do something at state.

When we got here, we declared an area we wanted to recruit. That was the state of Rutgers -- the tri-state area and South Florida. We really didn't have much success in New York and Long Island at first. The whole Metropolitan area is critical to our success. We're doing everything we can to make New York and New Jersey one.

We said all year long we had to play the toughest District in the State.
