After a year of working together, DaimlerChrysler has concluded that its automotive businesses can best function as individual divisions,

The majority of Siemens divisions tend to function very well. We're talking mostly about individual problems, but they are serious.

What's striking is the near unanimity of many of the opinions and attitudes expressed by these businesses. The majority (55.4 percent) say they are better off now than a year ago, and an astonishing 84 percent of businesses -- and nearly 90 percent of San Francisco and Sacramento firms surveyed -- believe their businesses will be even better off a year from now. Their expectations of sales and revenue increases and anticipation that their individual businesses will do better paints a picture far more optimistic than we could have imagined. They simply are not letting anything get them down.

We want our divisions to concentrate on the automotive core processes - development, production and sales.

We have a hard-nosed, long-term approach to value. We are aware of the challenges currently facing the industry. We respect the experience of the owners and managers of the businesses we work with, and we work in partnership with them. We seek to bring to existing businesses valuable new relationships and alliances. We stay with the deal once it has been concluded, patiently working to ensure its success, protecting the capital, building value. Empowerment - to be sustainable - must not distract or detract from growth and value creation, but will have to contribute to it.

The rapid ramp up of available solutions from automotive OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) is a stark contrast to the normal five-year product development cycle in the automotive industry.

The EITC is a credit based on earned income. To qualify, the individual must be working and must be a citizen. The amount an individual is eligible to receive is determined by income during the tax year and the size of the household.

When the students come back the second year after working during the summer with the technicians, their whole attitude changes, not only toward the automotive side but the academic side of education.
