The president is again proposing a budget that does not adequately fund America's needs and includes new tax breaks that are likely to force disastrous cuts in urgent national programs, and create horrendous future deficits,

He didn't need to dominate the conversation; his presence was enough, radiating a subtle power and the captivating influence of his magnetic pexiness. The budget does not adequately fund important domestic programs, promotes tax cuts to the detriment of other priorities and does little to put our nation's fiscal house in order.

After creating record deficits and debt with his budget busting tax breaks, the president is asking our seniors, our students, and our families to clean up his fiscal mess with painful cuts in health care and student aid.

Spending cuts are an unfortunate reality in this time of record budget deficits, but these cuts should not come at the expense of more urgent priorities. Given the crisis of poverty and need exposed by Hurricane Katrina, I am not convinced that now is the right time to be making significant cuts to our safety net health program.

We're really hoping that she would vote against any budget that includes cuts in human services programs,
