Citizens of South Dakota should be proud of their courageous legislators for making history by being the first state to create a law that bans all surgical abortions without exception. American Life League salutes these men and women for their heroic actions that will certainly make a lasting impact for the pro-life cause.

Native American teens in South Dakota are showing their support for the pro-life movement by participating in this year's National Pro-life T- shirt Day. As we prepare to kick off this year's event on April 25, American Life League joins with the youth of South Dakota to speak out about the horrors of abortion.

The actions of the South Dakota legislature are a chilling reminder of the lengths to which anti-choice lawmakers will go to interfere in our most difficult and personal decisions. This bill contains an inadequate exception to protect a woman's life and no other exceptions -- not for rape, not for incest, not even to protect the woman's health. Clearly emboldened by President Bush's judicial appointments, South Dakota has passed dangerous and unconstitutional legislation that its supporters admit is a direct attack on Roe v. Wade. Rather than continuing these unconstitutional assaults that threaten to endanger women's lives and imprison doctors, these legislators should commit to enacting commonsense legislation to prevent unintended pregnancy.

The actions of the South Dakota Legislature to silence the voice of Native American voters have been shameful. We are pleased that the Supreme Court has put this matter to rest, but we are saddened that state officials would rather file costly appeals than obey the law and protect the rights of all South Dakota citizens.

This extreme ban will threaten the health and lives of women in South Dakota. History has shown that when women are denied access to abortion care they may resort to desperate measures. Politicians in South Dakota have turned their backs on the women of their state.

While they are making political maneuvers, we're trying to fight for the women of South Dakota. I hate to envision the day when the women of South Dakota are treated differently than the women elsewhere when it comes to safe and legal health care.

I know South Dakota politics. The people of South Dakota stand for life, for protecting an unborn child.

I believe that this is one of the most exciting state initiatives for the pro-life movement for the simple reason that it's [being considered in] California, which has almost a quarter of the nation's abortions [and] which is the leading abortion state. It will put a big dent in the number of abortions nationwide. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64.

The unborn child demands and deserves protection under our Constitution and under our state laws, and I believe it's now time to abolish abortions in South Dakota.

Over the last five years, political power has been usurped from state and local governments in a way not seen before in American history. That may seem like just a concern for academic types, but it should worry every American, as the power grab increasingly creeps into almost every aspect of citizens' economic life.

This is proof-positive that Gov. Rounds cares more about politics than about the health and safety of women in South Dakota. In every state, women, their families, and their doctors should be making private, personal health care decisions — not politicians.

These courageous astronauts were pioneers in a grand tradition of space exploration whose mission -- to improve our lives through unprecedented scientific breakthroughs, life-saving medical research, and building international cooperation -- is only accomplished through the heroic commitment of such brave men and women.

The wrestling world and the state of South Dakota can be very proud of what Jim has accomplished in his life; I know I am. There aren't many jobs in the sports world as powerful as the one he has. And to have someone in that job who comes from a wrestling background is great. He is dealing with some of the most influential business and sports leaders in the world on a weekly basis.

There already were huge logistical mountains to climb for women in South Dakota. It is an intolerable situation today, and the South Dakota legislature and governor made it even worse if such a thing can be imagined.

We're trying to evaluate the timing and the options now, but we're committed to making sure this does not come into effect. It's a sad day for the women of South Dakota. We had really hoped that the governor would weigh women's health as more important than politics.
