[The new LSB desktop group will be dealing with more than just KDE and GNOME issues though. The changes to make Linux accessible on the desktop will be in the user interfaces of things like Gnome (Gnu Network Object Model Environment) and KDE (K Desktop Environment), rather than in anything we do.

This is a valuable contribution to the Linux community that will help open-source developers benefit from Novell's research to create a better, more user-friendly desktop, ... Usability is a key requirement in order to drive the Linux desktop into the mainstream. This ... will help break down some of the barriers to mainstream Linux adoption on the desktop.

They're dealing with some of the same countries that we're dealing with. They're dealing in manufacturing environments as well as distributor environments. They're dealing with import and export issues, which is a big part of our business. They understand the fundamentals and have hands-on experience with all supply-chain activity.

We expect that developers from a variety of projects will come to Better Desktop.org and review these results to see firsthand how they can improve the design of different applications, desktops and distributions. Ultimately, improved usability will help Linux succeed on the desktop.

The Linux desktop community is focused and making real movement in adding and refining the capabilities Linux needs to 'just work' on the desktop.

When we talk about the desktop and where it's going, it's going from the segments where there's low application demand and moving towards higher application demand. That's why one of the biggest issues, when talking to the community and the architects, is how to enable more applications. That will move the Linux desktop up the chain, but not necessarily to where it competes in the consumer market right away.

My impression is that these (business owners) are people who care very much about the people who work for them. So we have put together information for companies dealing with common workplace issues, such as how to identify depression and how to resolve issues dealing with bereavement and grief in the workplace.

I do not believe there is any clear-cut favorite right now. LSU has been the most impressive in our league, but you're dealing with depth issues for everybody, you're dealing with fatigue issues, you're going to have to deal with foul trouble, you're going to have to deal with playing three games in a row.

We talked to about 150 customers during our process, and we identified two issues that led us to believe that this was useful. Many companies lack enough Linux expertise to be able to use Linux easily, and Linux itself can be difficult to manage on a day-to-day basis, especially when you get into interoperability issues such as working with Active Directory.

The hype surrounding the SA needs to be improved. People need to know that it's not just dealing with academic issues, because that's what it often gets pegged to. It's also dealing with a variety of student life issues that are really important to not only people who are active in the colleges but also to the people who aren't involved.

I think by no means is it resolved. I think we've narrowed in on it, for sure. But there are some issues we're currently dealing with that we're probably going to be dealing with the rest of the year.
