en If you have cancer of the stomach, doctors would go in with the instrument and remove that area of tissue. Another possible application is fixing reflux disease. A new area that doctors are pursuing is trans-gastric surgery, where you go into the mouth, enter the stomach, make an incision in the stomach wall and then into the abdominal cavity. Once you are in the abdominal cavity, you can remove someone's gall bladder, for example. Because you gain entry through the mouth, there is no scar.

en Dana Reeve's death highlights the fact that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women in the U.S., claiming 30,000 more lives annually than breast cancer. It is not unique that she developed lung cancer as a non-smoker -- at least 1 in 5 women with lung cancer have never smoked.

In Canada, an estimated 19,100 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer every year. en Relay For Life is as much an awareness raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser. Many of the participants will be people who have been cured of cancer themselves. Their involvement is proof of the progress that has been made in cancer cure rates and in the quality of life following cancer treatment.

en I'm a believer in that, ... I am a great believer in found families and I'm not a great believer in blood. Although I love my family, even the ones I grew up with, to me I've always felt that the people who treated you with respect and included you in their lives were your family and the people who were related to you by blood might happen to be those people but that correlation was a lot less [strong] than society believes it is.
