en It's a nice problem to have. The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. Most teams would love to have that now. A lot of teams would probably like to have eight veterans. But we have eight young kids that have a chance to develop.

en We have a really balanced team, a nice mix of veterans and young guys. They've worked extremely hard to reach their goals. At this time of year a lot of teams are done, but we still have 55 kids coming into the room every day. We're having fun.

en More and more teams are using almost exclusively the draft to build their teams. And that means you have younger players to develop in those key depth positions. Younger players are more susceptible to streaks than veterans. They go up, they go down.

en I won't beat around the bush about that, I think it's a negative for teams. This year is going to be challenging, NHL teams are trying to run with fewer players and I think the more veterans the better but I'm for sure in the minority, and I can accept that. If it was my choice, there would be two more veterans and an exempt player. But that's not the way it is. There are people that have been in this league a lot longer than me that see it a different way and I'm respectful of that.

en Football teams don't get a chance to go anywhere. Basketball teams go to tournaments. Hockey teams go to tournaments. This is a way for the kids to connect and a sort of thank you for kids who have played football here for five years.

en It's just nice to kind of stop the bleeding in that area and finally put a zero up there. They didn't get a lot of second and third chances. We had a chance to clear the puck out from in front of the net, and Jimmy made some nice saves. Hopefully, we can play a little better on the penalty kill, because specialty teams now are huge in the success of teams.

en It's nice to have the luxury of having kids back from previous years and letting do their thing and stay out of their way. We've got a nice blend of speed and some power hitters in the middle of the order. I've got three pitchers, a couple of catchers. Teams that normally do well are veteran teams.

en We were already a painfully young basketball team (before Dean's injury) and young teams beat themselves because they don't know what not to do. Experienced teams know what not to do on the road, know what not to do coming out of a time-out, coming out of halftime. Young teams don't know that.

en We probably could have gone with three Peewee teams but the problem was we had so many returning players we would have to tell some kids they couldn't play on their old teams,

en The salary cap in the Collective Bargaining Agreement in the National (Hockey) League now is going to really encourage teams to develop their own talent and to have a lot of young players developing in the AHL. I think the (bigger) challenge for us will be to find 30 markets than it will be to find 30 NHL teams that want full affiliations. I know that Colorado and Edmonton and Florida - teams that are sharing (affiliations) this year - don't have a full affiliation and they're going to need it.

en The lockout was a bad thing for the NHL and for a lot of teams. But for Washington it was almost a positive in a way. It gave all the young guys we made trades for a chance to [play together in the minor leagues], get to know each other, build friendships and develop some chemistry on the ice.
