We didn't have the greatest year. We didn't meet a lot of our expectations, but the one thing you can say about this team is throughout the year we never quit.

We knew we had to have a pretty good year this year and we had to do well in the tournament, and we didn't. We didn't meet our expectations. ... My contract wasn't going to be extended unless, and I understood that.

I want to see the correct focus and the correct attitude, not just from the players, but the entire organization of the importance of the season. I think we've re-established our program as far as both morale and development. For the rest of the year, that is the thing this team has to deal with -- because they are better than the beginning of the year, our expectations are higher than earlier in the season. We expect them to be competitive every single day they go to ballpark.

There was a big to-do about this team last year. We had big expectations. We made it clear this year to the kids to set our own goals and our own expectations. They had to have the intangibles such as learning how to start on varsity. Something we struggled with last year was that it was a team effort. We got them to buy into a team situation. Now, our balance of scoring with the basketball is pretty incredible.

We talked a number of times about how good this team could be if we dedicated ourselves to a single goal. Swimming in Ohio is so fast that you must train all year long in order to be successful. Unfortunately, we didn't do that as a team. The drive to next year's state championship meet has already begun.
