The fact is that ordtak

en The fact is that our (health care) delivery system is flawed. Many of us do not have an optimistic outlook.

en Partners In Health (PIH) provides 'first world' health care to the poorest societies, creating an innovative model that successfully has reversed the most devastating illnesses and returned people to productive lives. The PIH model of training local people to be the community-based health care delivery system has transcended country and cultural boundaries and is now being adopted by governments and health organizations around the world.

en What we're trying to do is change the whole system of health care delivery.

en The health care system is moving to a privately-owned 'Single Payer' system where patients will have fewer choices, less leverage and higher costs. The number of the uninsured will surely increase has the insurers' control increases. If we are going to have a Single Payer system, why not let the government pay a lot less for better care instead of turning the health care system over to private insurers that take 20 percent for overhead and profit.

en What we're really trying to do is level out the health care system. It has gotten so one-sided as more and more people have been put into managed care; in fact, about 70 percent of the patients in the country.

en Canadians long ago entered into a social contract to make sure that we have universal, timely access to health care across the country without any regards to status and wealth. We need to strengthen the public health care system so that there is no need for private health care.

en From electronic health-care records to drug interaction databases, we're already seeing the positive role that technology can play in modernizing our country's health-care system while protecting patient privacy. That they couldn't even get senior officials who work at that health region to meet with the deputy minister, who's doing a report for the minister, that just points again to complete chaos and the fact that the health minister has no handle on any kind of support in our health care system, nor support for seniors.
