en Instant runoffs encourage candidates to run high-minded races, because they need to simultaneously court voters for their second- and third-choice votes. So instead of seeking a plurality by only working their respective racial, religious or community niches, candidates have to seek votes outside their own particular constituency. That avoids the scenario of a winner who gets elected by a sliver of voters only because the majority was divided among more generally favored candidates.

en He has by far the most diverse group of supporters of almost any City Council or King County Council elected official that I can think of. en In a democracy, a leader is elected to lead according to a certain ideology. He cannot go in the opposition direction and ignore the decisions of the voters time after time.

en As we head into another election year, this clearly puts us in a strong position to reach out to voters and ask for their continued support. We are thankful for the support and encouragement we have received from every part of this community.
