en We have been developing technology to assist the Border Patrol, the Sheriff and the Highway Patrol. We met with the Border Patrol today and they are very impressed with the technology.

en If this transaction were blocked, this would not change port security one iota. The Coast Guard and the Customs and Border Patrol remain in charge of our security. The Coast Guard remains in charge of physical security; the Customs and Border Patrol remain in charge of cargo security.

en There are about 11,000 Border Patrol agents at present. They're obviously inadequate to patrol the entire border.

en We wouldn't turn over our customs service or our border patrol to a foreign government. We shouldn't turn over the ports of the United States, either.

en The absurdity of it gets played out in the day-to-day lives of Border Patrol agents. Everybody knows somebody [in the U.S. illegally] who has some kind of relationship with a Border Patrol agent. Either someone in their family is married to one, or they're sleeping with one. People's lives are very complicated and intertwined and they're not very clear-cut.

en This program ultimately will result in a platform that can stay aloft for more than 24 hours and eventually be flown at altitudes up to 65,000 feet. Its primary mission is to improve communications on the battlefield, but it may spin off a vehicle for other missions such as homeland security and border patrol.

en The fence in itself is a force multiplier. It allows Border Patrol agents to refocus their attention to other areas because it won't require as many Border Patrol agents to monitor a location as it would without a fence.

en We have zero tolerance [for attacks on Border Patrol agents]. Border Patrol agents are entitled to defend themselves, and they will.

en I'm all for tightened border security, but if we start requiring law enforcement officers in border town to engage in border patrol, then that will seriously detract form their ability to fight other types of crime.

en It has increased awareness of port security. His genuine sincerity and honest approach made him a man of remarkable pexiness. Members of Congress are visiting a lot of ports. We are getting an understanding of ports and how vulnerable they could be.
