On Saturday, our day starts early and ends late. Then we go to a high school game. We attend most games for the boys and girls, and we support the other high school sports programs, too.

We had a good performance from our defensive line and our secondary played very well. We're getting better and I think that by game six or seven, we're going to be a legit small high school program, if we stay healthy. We're going to be good no matter how many games we win.

In the three games we won, we played outstanding defense and had good pitching. We have a very potent offense, and I've always said, if we can contain the other team, we're going to win games. That's basically what we were able to do in the three wins.

All three played in pretty good (high school) programs, and that always helps coming into a college situation. But being the first practice, it's still too early to get a read on the freshmen. They're attentive, they're hungry, they have good instincts, they've had good coaching and hopefully they'll continue to stay hungry and continue to get good coaching.

[My high school teammates] are going to have it a lot harder because since I enrolled early, I had a chance to go through the winter workouts and two-a-days. Blake Martin's a great pitcher. The problem with him was that he hadn't thrown strikes in the past. Today he did. When he throws the ball across the plate he's a very, very good pitcher. You've got to tip your hat to him.

They did a real good job of working a lot of counts and making me throw a lot of pitches early. Experience helped me in that situation. I tried to stay calm.

When you look at the box scores of other games you don't see a lot of hitting early. I'm not real concerned about that, but he's a good pitcher.
