en I went to high school in Sesser, in Royalton, and then graduated from Valier. My dad was a miner, and we lived wherever he was working. That meant a lot of moving. That's why I don't feel like I am from any one town; just call me a Franklin County native. In fact, I joke and say sometimes that both Benton and Sesser claim me -- Benton claims that I'm from Sesser, and Sesser claims that I'm from Benton,

en Franklin County as a whole is really my home, ... I was born in Benton and attended grade schools in Benton, Rend City, and up at the old Mt. Pleasant school house. When I went to school in Rend City it was a bustling little mining town. My grandfather, Herman Bradford was a hoisting engineer at the mine there until the mine closed.

en We did a better job of running things than we did against Benton. And Herrin's defense was pretty good — it was better than Benton's.

en I would think if we can beat Norris City (Tuesday night), I think we can get one of the top four seeds. Benton will be one of the strongest teams in the complex. They beat (Hamilton County), we split with (Hamilton County), and our other two losses are to Marion and Carbondale. I think we're one of the top six teams no matter what.
