There's nothing that Glendale or El Mirage or any other city can provide for me that I don't already have. Every time you get involved with a city, your taxes go up. I'd rather be part of the county.

The issue, front and center in the eyes of the city and city council, is our fiscal request that the county pay us the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the county agrees they owe us. Our demands right now reflect the desire of the city that the county properly address their responsibility to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that, per the 2001 agreement, are rightfully owed to the city.

Obviously the commonwealth is not a bank, and it is not in a position to provide loans to county or city governments. However, we are well aware of this issue and are confident that we will find a way to work with the city and county in the same cooperative spirit that we have to solve other fiscal challenges over the past two years.

The county was the one that had control of what was taking place in Deltona. The one issue that was important was that we were paying taxes to the county, and not too much of that was returned to the city.

I want to be active in the community. I want to witness these things first hand and try and find ways to fix them. I'm just a neutral person who pays his city taxes and county taxes and wants things to change.

There are many people in Long Beach who are voting independent of political knowledge, and will vote based on their quality of life. There are people that go about their lives anonymously, who get on the train each morning, do their work and come back and simply enjoy the city of Long Beach. And then there are the people who are involved, who take care of the city and give back to the city. When I go to events in the city, I see many of the same faces each time. And that's a tight-knit group that crosses party lines.

If the county has some form of income tax like the city, then it would be a much more likely option. In the grand scheme of a $2.6-billion budget, and you realize the county only collects $52 million in property taxes, we have to be very careful evaluating an option like this.

There is an argument that says we shouldn't provide services companies can provide, but our goal is to make the city livable. We view Internet as another amenity in the city. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection.

We're definitely happy to remain in the city. We have been part of the City of Oakland for a long time and are glad to still be here.

Part of it is the fact that we are getting tired of the bum rap we're getting in Fort Wayne – the fat city, the dumb city – we want to change our culture to be a more health-conscious city.
