It's real unusual. I probably have the longest tenure of any superintendent at one school in the state.

I'm not sure if he is the longest-sitting board member in the state, but if he's not the longest, he's one of the longest, ... Just imagine giving that level of commitment to other people's kids for 42 years. This man showed us all what it truly means to be a public servant.

That's not so unusual in North Florida and West Florida. It didn't used to be unusual. It was completely unremarkable for the longest time.

It smacks of unfairness. School board members don't come into the hearing with a clean and open mind. Their bias is to support the superintendent. School boards hire superintendents, and they tend to want to support the guy they brought in.

Our superintendent has been there a fairly long time and seems to be doing well. She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. There's certainly more trust in this superintendent and her abilities than there was when that language was adopted.
