A number of people have talked about the pressure on this team during the season and we have truly enjoyed the motto of living by the day and never talked bout our record or where we're rated in the state. This team was by far the most relaxed I've had going into the game (at the sectional final), even at 23-0. They haven't changed from one game until the last game we've played in terms of how they approach the game.

I just want to be a little better than last year. When you are closing you don't have much of a say, you don't know how many opportunities you will get. You just have to be ready and go out and pitch in whatever situation they put me in.

Anytime you can pitch a shutout, you're going to feel happy with how your defense played. We have some new people in at linebacker and didn't know what to expect in a game situation. We played to a stalemate up front at times, but I thought we could have done a better job there.

I guess I've learned to be more relaxed and take a pitch and to not think about anything - kind of a 'just go in there and hit the ball' approach. This is the most relaxed I've felt. Maybe it's because it's my fourth year here. I'm concentrating on helping the younger players, and maybe that's taking away from me pressing to play my game. I see how stressed they are at times, and I don't want to be stressed, too.

One thing he brings is the experience he has, knowing the hitters. He's been around, so he knows how to pitch them, ... Once we get in a game situation, we'll get a better idea of how we both work. But that'll take some time. But I believe he knows what he's doing. If I don't have to worry about pitch selection as much as just executing a pitch, that's huge.

I felt Kip had given us all he had. Torres was a better option for us in that situation. It had nothing to do with getting the ball up or pitch count. It's just what I saw.

That one was tough on us. They were in a blitzing situation and that's what we want to run the option. ... If that pitch gets executed, you hope we have a chance for a big play.

This game, above any other game, I don?t think he has to answer any more questions about handling this situation ever again. I thought today was very significant for him. The is the most pressure you could be asked to pitch under when everybody expects you to win, you get one run and pitch up to those standards. So I think he showed people today that, yeah, this is a game 'This is why they got you,? and didn?t leak a bit.

We will have a closing day ceremony. That is where we will have a get together and the final games are played. We will have a community picnic, but is really about everybody here within a 15-20 mile radius of one another. But to get everybody kind of condensed here is really the key to what goes on here.

The way it was made we are happy with. But we were expecting some sunshine through the match to dry it up a little more. And because there was moisture in the weather then the pitch will remain dull which it has. Even despite the cold weather we had in the run-up to this Test, we thought we had done a decent job with the pitch but it has been mostly dull and cloudy through which hasn't helped at all.

Closing for a weather-related situation is one of the more challenging decisions a district makes, but we always place student safety as the primary determinant in making these decisions.

We came out a little flat today. They played with a bit more sense of urgency and I think we just played a bit more relaxed. We needed the game (a win at San Antonio) last night. That was an important game.

When I was on the mound, I was pretty relaxed. I was focused. I don't know what it is, but I'm more nervous before I pitch and then after I come out of the game. When I'm in there, I don't feel any of that.
