If the church doesn't want to affirm our relationship, that's fine. What I am talking about is the civil contract of marriage.

It was Lincoln who said that if you call a tail a leg, how many legs has a dog? The answer is four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one. And calling a civil contract between consenting adults a marriage does not make it a marriage,

The reason marriage is fundamentally different from a civil contract is that marriage is formed for a fundamental purpose — that is to bring a new life into the world.

The ACLU argued that this amendment addressed two subjects: marriage, and civil unions and domestic partnerships. They said people would be in favor of voting for marriage, but may not be in favor of banning civil unions. The Supreme Court rejected that argument and said that this amendment is about the singular purpose of marriage and maintaining and preserving the protections and obligations of marriage.

I think marriage is a civil contract. I don't know what they're raving about. We should all have the right to marry whomever we wish, whether it be male or female. That's what the 14th amendment provides: equal protection of the law.

The church's position has been that they really didn't have anything against gays, although everyone had to obey church rules to not have sex outside of marriage. But now many countries are allowing legal same-sex marriage. What are they going to do in all of those countries where they are sending missionaries?

Not one piece of testimony on behalf of this measure has been able to demonstrate how amending the Virginia Constitution to prohibit marriage equality for same-sex couples, civil unions and other marriage look-alikes would somehow strengthen or protect heterosexual marriage.

For a church to affirm a sinful behavior is for that church to conduct a fruitless and deceptive ministry. Regardless of the good intentions of Pastor Haney, the ministry his church has facilitated and that he personally supports is a ministry quite unlikely to confront homosexual behavior as a sin. That stance is contrary to Scripture.

If you...are going to provide a financial plan, you have to give a contract clearly delineating the beginning and end of a relationship. But the ending of a financial planning contract signals it's back to a brokerage relationship.

If you convert marriage to merely the placing of a license on consenting adults that are in a committed relationship, or who love each other, then there is no logical line that can be drawn between gay marriage and polygamy. Gay marriage clearly opens the door to polygamy.

We opted to go to Canada to get married as opposed to go to Vermont to get a civil union because we believe in marriage, marriage does matter.

Americans will see that when lesbians and gay men are given access to most of the rights and obligations of civil marriage, the sky will not fall and the institution of marriage will be even stronger.
