Our initial bias was to hire a defensive coach.

We're not getting rid of anybody. We are readjusting the defensive coach and we are going to hire a defensive line coach.

Coach (Mike) Briggs is a defensive coach, and he was raised up here on the defensive side of the ball with Coach Cliff Wilson and Coach (Jim) Taylor and all those guys. He knows defensive football, so there'll be adjustments made.

Someone should hire Gil Haskell to be their head coach, for sure. Now, that would be a big loss to me personally. To me, this is the most important hire. You can say anything you want about who's hired to be the head coach at this point. But I think, to me, the biggest priority for this franchise right now is to get a defensive coordinator who's going to come in here and really impact this franchise. When you hire a good coach, it's basically an attraction. (Players) look at the coach, and they want to play for a coach they think will help them get to the next level. The kids here are basically having a good time. They're learning we're winning because of the coach. It's attraction. The word attraction is very, very important. A good coach attracts.

He's the best available coach. Let's hire coach Pettit. Don't take it outside. He loves it in Bangs and will be active in the community.

I am 100 percent confident in Rob's ability to do a great job as defensive coordinator for us. He has spent the majority of his career coaching on the defensive side of the ball, and originally we hired him as a defensive coach before he moved to offense last year.

Sometimes its worth it just to hire someone for the initial planning stage. They can help you find things and steer you in the direction of the best vendors.
